Third Passage of the Autumn Moon

Glass Bubble Shows Undersea World

There’s yet another reason to visit Moraithe – an enterprising young man has invented the Selvoyager, a most remarkable vehicle.

Comprised of a glass dome weighted down by tremendous weight, the Selvoyager allows up to six people to descend thirty arms beneath the water and remain there for up to a quarter of an hour.

Essentially, the Selvoyager creates a pocket of air which allows visitors to breathe underneath the surface. The inventor, named Jonnan, invested more than two hundred thousand silver – his family fortune – in the bubble, as well as a special ship to drop and retrieve the device, and a unique netting to protect ‘voyagers’ from undersea creatures. Jonnan’s Undersea Adventures is written in bold letters across the side of his odd-looking ship.

Jonnan has explored the waters surrounding the island so that he can drop voyagers into the most incredible undersea environments – among the highlights are brightly coloured coral reefs, undersea ‘plantations’ of kelp, and ‘The Brink’ – a perch atop the edge of a cliff that descends straight down into impenetrable darkness.

Adventures can be scheduled at the docks, and are priced beginning at 300 silver per person.

Riding Cats Cause Havok

It wasn’t too long ago when we reported on a gentleman who was selling trained Great Forest Cats. Since that time, disaster has struck.

"It is clear, now, that he was using magic to enchant the beasts," said Cairon, Captain of the Aranorian Guard. "These magics had a limited duration, and once they wore off . . ."

Luckily, the attention of the guards was summoned as soon as the first cat slipped past the enchantment. Still, the owner and two passersby were slain as the beast went into a frenzy.

"It was quite frightened," said Cairon, who happened to be nearby. Cairon managed to wound it badly, and it fled into the park. He and other of the elite guard-force managed to capture the beast with magics, and it is even now being transported into the distant northlands along with all the other Great Forest Cats purchased in the city.

The man who sold the cats is suspected to have given a false name and is being sought by the authorities of the Old World. Flyers with his likeness can be found on city message boards, and a five thousand silver reward has been offered for his capture.

Rilhaven Prepares For Kraeven

A struggling Rilhaven is preparing for yet another autumn season of fighting off the kraeven. Despite reports to the contrary earlier in the spring, it seems that the winter den-hunts did indeed decrease the population. With most villages now being fortified, it is hoped that the autumn season, when the creatures are most active in hunting, can be passed with no human deaths. Another winter of den-hunts, the populace is hoping, will bring the numbers down even further.

Thus far the disease that creates the beasts seems to be limited to kraeven – although dogs and other animals, including humans, can be infected, the victims soon die. This is a blessing, for if the disease could live within wolves, cats, or humans, the problem would be much more terrible.

Rilhaven is again officially requesting aid from anyone willing to serve as defenders of villages – volunteers are stationed at one of the numerous villages and will be provided room and board, as well as a small stipend.

Rilhaven continues to battle with a loss of trade, the threat of Maelmuirian attack, the kraeven, and the loss of hundreds of its people to emigration.
