Second Passage of the Autumn Moon

More Lycanthropy Scares

Two more reports of lycanthropes have been reported to Aranor, and the stirrings of a panic are beginning to build. Historically, such panics have led to riots and slayings of both wolves and humans.

One report comes from Liramelle, where ‘a large wolf has killed three children and a huntsman’. The other comes from Ritual, where ‘a host of wolves have taken to prowling on the outskirts of the village’.

While lycanthropy is certainly real, authorities in Aranor are hesitant to take the reports seriously. On the morrow, they’ll be posting flyers throughout the city. A copy is below.

A recent report of a lycanthrope in Selarum has prompted a surge in new ‘sightings’. Please remember that these ‘sightings’ more likely represent encounters with dire wolves or forest wolves, and that we are probably actually seeing an increase in reports, as opposed to an increase of actual sightings or killings. The authorities of all Old World cities take the issue of lycanthropy quite seriously, and will thoroughly investigate all reports.

It was further pointed out that in the last hundred years, more people have died from lycanthropy-related riots than from the disease itself!

Please remember such facts when you hear the rumors on the streets.

Erthynsilver Artifacts Found

Karia Amara is making a name for herself among adventurers. While exploring the wildlands north of Aranor, she came upon some ruins which she quickly identified as belonging to the faerie races that predate even the Northerners’ settlement of the Old World.

Upon further investigation, however, she discovered numerous artifacts composed of erthynsilver.

"This is fascinating," she told me, "because according to the Archaists, who are the only ones able to forge the stuff, erthynsilver was a gift from the deities to civilized humans, and does not occur naturally. How, then, could these artifacts exist in ruins which we suspect predate civilized humankind?"

She has already been offered considerable sums for the artifacts, most of which serve unknown purposes. The erythnsilver isn’t pure, but is adulterated with a reddish substance which has formed inclusions throughout.

Sages and collectors are eager to learn more. Karia has kept the site a secret, but says that she plans on returning to do more exploring within the moon.

"There’s more up there," she said. "I can guarantee that."

We’ll have to wait to see if sages decide whether this alters our historical knowledge regarding the origins of the amazing substance we call erthynsilver-- not to mention our current theories of the Old World's beginnings.

MorDuraan Beast Killed In Moraithe

When the people of Zhakarlay, an inland city of Moraithe, called upon Duke Amasay, he must have known that they were serious. Over thirty soldiers were sent to deal with the problem, and only seventeen returned.

"The creature was winged and massive, and moved with great speed and agility. Venomous fangs and a barbed tail didn’t help, either," said Shane, the captain of the soldiers. He went on to explain that the creature had magical abilities, including the power to fade into a sort of smoky mist, and the ability to appear as a human.

"Numerous times our soldiers ran to the aid of a fellow, only to find that the creature had assumed their companion’s form."

The creature would then turn on them and continue its slaughter.

In the end the men brought it down using jungle poisons created by the Zhakarlay villagers.

"Although we usually think of the MorDuraans as the creators of undead, it’s a known fact that many of their creations came to life – some even gaining the ability to breed."

The creature was determined to be of MorDuraan origin after historical documents were brought to light – documents which exactly identified the creature’s appearance.

"We’re confronting the Masallan authorities about this," said Shane. "As has happened in the past, we’re demanding restitution from the MorDuraan family."

The extended MorDuraan family still resides in Masalla, living in a Masallan-secured domicile at a secret location. Their lives, according to Erjaan DuRay,  head of the guards that makes sure the MorDuraans are obeying all the strictures they suffered after the war, are spent working to raise enough gold to pay restitutions to families whose members are killed by the creatures their ancestors crafted.
