Second Passage of the Harvest Moon
Attack on the Aurora
The Aurora, one of Aranor's most famous inns, was damaged by three men who said the establishment 'put them out because they weren't dressed right'.
"Two
paintings, both by the Lantrielle artist Manin, were heavily damaged, as well as some of the brocaded
curtains and woodwork,” said Shanus, who is in charge of security at the Aurora.
Angered, the three men took
up stones and threw them through the front windows, and then ran inside and
began breaking things.
The men were swiftly subdued
and taken to the guard, where it is expected that they will be required to
perform city service until they can pay the Aurora back for damages, which are
estimated to exceed ten thousand silver.

Mystery Culture Makes Contact
Alaira is a
little-known village-province along the route from Moraithe to Masalla. Serving
mostly as a reputable stop-off for merchant sailors, the outside world hears
little about the goings-on in the small but thriving community.
But now reports are coming
in from Alaira of a strange people who sail into their port and supply them with
goods unlike those seen elsewhere in the world.
“When we came into Alaira
last moon,” says Jannon, who captains a small merchant vessel along the route,
“I was amazed to see a long, sleek ship with sweeping lateen sails. There was
pronounced ribbing along the sides, and the design was very strange. In port,
they had a section of the village that no one was allowed to enter, and they
also offered strange things for sale – foodstuffs and exotic weapons and
jewels.”
While some suggest that this
might be a ploy on the part of the residents of Alaira, our own Emily of
Illumination points out that history gives a clue that their story might be
real.
Here is a portion of a
journal entry from a little-known event that occurred in Masalla, years before
the Masallan expansion.
Two raids we fought off
on the northern shore. Eight ships assaulted our beach-camp, all with long
profiles and reinforcements that appeared as long ribs down the ships’ sides.
The description
suggests that the ships may be the same, but for now, at least, only the people
of Alaira know for sure.

Clothes for Dogs?
In perhaps the
strangest fashion yet in Aranor, some nobles have taken to putting clothes on
their dogs.
Tania
“We’re selling hats, mitties,
jackets, and vests, as well as tail-coats,” said Misha, the owner of the stand
who started the trend.
While most people are
laughing, nobles are paying up to three hundred silver for choice pieces.
“These are specially
designed for a dog’s body,” said Misha. “And dogs are proud to wear them. You
can see them strut.”
Watch for them this winter,
when the fashions will move toward full coverage, especially on short-haired
noble dogs.
