Third Passage of the Dry Moon
Moraithian Slaves Continue Rebellion
Last passage we learned of a group of slave who had rebelled and were keeping their master, one Lord Aranin, captive. The slaves charged that their master was guilty of raping and beating slaves, and demanded passage to the New World, whereupon they would release their captive.
Apparently desiring to set an example for other slaves, Duke Amasay ordered an attack on the house last An Meja – an attack which left over sixty Moraithian soldiers dead.
“This is devastating,” says the new Moraithian emissary to Aranor. “The slaves apparently had a conjurer among them who has been conjuring weapons. We thought the slaves were virtually unarmed, but when our men went in, they met armed resistance. These slaves are killers.”
In the chaos of the fighting, Moraithian soldiers were unable to get a count of the slaves they killed, but the number ranges between ten and twenty. It is estimated that there might be seventy more slaves in Lord Aranin’s home, which has been turned into a small fortress complete with rope bridges that lead from tree to tree. The slaves are apparently using their knowledge of the landscape to beat back their attackers.
Moraithe has a relatively small military, and the loss of sixty men has been devastating. The slaves are renewing their request to be taken from the isle, but apparently Duke Amasay has rejected their offer as ‘unreasonable’.
There are few options left, however. Starving them out is unlikely to work, since they are subsisting off the bounty of the jungle. And with magicians in their ranks, the situation becomes even more difficult.
Nevertheless, Duke Amasay has vowed to ‘have them all hung’. Reports suggest that he has become ‘unthinking with anger’, and the fear of the populace is that more of the Moraithian military will die attempting to reach Lord Aranin, whom the people of Moraithe are beginning to see as something of a monster. Reports continue to surface of his mistreatment of slaves.
We’ll keep you abreast.

Member of Illumination Attacked
Lady Emily, perhaps the most famous of the Illumination sages, is familiar to many of us. Under the auspices of Queen Lillian she and her fellow Illumination members provide us with knowledge that has long been the privilege of few.
Last An Ilé, on her way to the bakery, Lady Emily was attacked by a nobleman who began shouting that she was responsible for ‘the fall of all that is good and moral’.
Witnesses say that he struck her a glancing blow, but that Emily, small of frame and only seventeen years old, retaliated with a swift kick to the groin.
“Aradell’s been giving me unarmed combat lessons,” she explained.
The nobleman collapsed and began shouting for the guards, claiming that he had been attacked by the lady. His name is Lord Tameron, and we suggest that anyone who sees him gives him some lighthearted teasing about being beat up by a little girl.
The guards are taking the incident more seriously, and are keeping Lord Tameron in the Aranorian dungeons for a passage so he can ‘cool off’. He will be paying an apology fine to Lady Emily.

Magician’s Gathering Coming to Aranor
Mages and majae from all the Known Lands will be arriving in Aranor over the next few passages in preparation for what has been called ‘the largest magician’s gathering ever’. Representatives of different schools, philosophies, and disciplines will be discussing a wide range of issues, such as the future of magic in the new renaissance, the morality of magical practice, the acceptance of magic after the fall of Antara, and the possible introduction of a totally new school of magical practice.
Two forums will be open to the public – times will be announced on message boards throughout the city. The forums are intended to give the attending magicians an understanding of the average person’s opinion regarding numerous magical issues.
The organizer of the event has also approached Queen Lillian about the possibility of a magical demonstration sometime during the event. If permission is granted, it could give people a rare chance to see powerful magics cast before their very eyes.
Watch the message boards to learn more!
