Beast Ravages Villages

The news coming out of Masalla recently has revolved around the drama of Queen Anabelle’s apparent ascension to power.  But now there is a new development.

At least eight different villages along the route from Merydian to La Shakerre have reported attacks by a large, ferocious beast.

Witnesses describe the thing as a ‘massive, hulking creature of fur and scales.’  Described as ‘terrifyingly fast’, it roams the moors and fields near dusk and dawn in search of prey.

Voracious, it has killed horses, cows, dogs, sheep, and humans.  The remains are often found cached under piles of brush.

Many fear that the creature is not natural, and suggest that it might be some old MorDuraan beast that found its way back to civilization.  Others note that the ancestors of the MorDuraan family have been more active of late, and rumors are afloat that the beast may be crafted by their magics.

Eight separate hunting parties are now in charge of finding and killing the creature, and it is hoped that it won’t be long before the roads are once again safe.

Queen Lillian Hosts Visitors from Irutoka

The Emperor of Jedda Felsuin has sent a party of representatives to speak to Queen Lillian about the sanctions she has imposed on trade from the Emperor’s isles.

The sanctions came into effect when the Emperor refused to cease his attacks against the Empress’ isle of Mymé.  Concerned about the swiftly rising prices of Jeddan goods, Queen Lillian gave the Emperor an ultimatum – remove his ships from Mymé waters and allow the trade routes to re-open, or suffer trade sanctions from the Old World.

The Emperor chose the sanctions.  Now that the Emperor has been beaten back, he is decrying the sanctions, which are weighing heavily upon the people of Irutoka.  Thus far the Queen has refused to negotiate, but she has granted audience with the representatives.  They are scheduled to meet on An Tiné, and we will report next passage on the results of the meetings.

Pickle Contest in Aranor

Asparagus, cucumbers, beans, carrots, peppers, beets . . . these are only a few of the pickled treats available during the first annual Pickle Festival in Aranor.

“With all these free-food festivals,” said one pickle-maker, “we’re going to feed all the hungry folks in the Theives’ District!”

Pickle makers are competing for the grand prize – a huge jar of cucumber pickles made by the famed pickle-maker Tannin Oraan from Rilhaven.  Citizens of Aranor are welcome to attend the contest – samples of pickles can be tasted, and citizens are then allowed to cast a vote for their favorite pickle.

“The competition will be fierce,” said the pickle-maker.  “And the contest?  Delicious.”
