First Passage of the Summer Moon

Warship Lost

The mystery thickened near Teran’s Point when a report came in just yesterday that one of the warships was lost.

The scout ship anchored off the shore approximately a league north of Teran’s Point in order to investigate some wreckage. On land, they were attacked by creatures of an unknown race – observers from the companion scout ship said that the creatures appeared like humans, but had glistening skin, as if they were wet. The observations were made from a distance of at least 200 paces, so it is difficult to be objective, but the attacking people appeared much like the ‘mimics’ we noted the Kraken using.

The crew that had landed was either killed or captured, and that was when the Kraken struck the anchored ship. The crew fought valiantly, but the hull of the ship was breached by the Kraken and it swiftly took water. Most of the remaining crew were pulled under, but three were rescued by the companion ship.

What is terrorizing the waters near Teran’s Point is still a mystery – this new event only adds more questions to the situation. At this time Queen Lillian is not sending more warships, but we have been told that the warships presently stationed at Teran’s Point are redoubling their efforts to solve the mystery and once again make the waters safe for passage.

We should expect no significant shortages of imports at this time, for the route is officially open. But the word on the docks is that merchants are holding back their ships until the threat is destroyed.

Gwynned Experiences Swift Growth

The newly found provinces of Gwynned are growing swiftly as people from all the Known Lands make their way to the isle, lured by promises of free homesteads and new opportunities.

Shara Brae is experiencing the most impressive growth, with an estimated 600 people now in the city, and up to 800 in the province itself.

"This is a land of promise," says Taralae, emissary to Aranor from Shara Brae. "We have people from Jedda, Masalla, Moraithe – and, of course, the Old and New Worlds – people who are here to find a new life."

The inland provinces are still wanting for a viable population, since adequate transport of goods hasn’t yet been established from the ports. The wilds of Gwynned are famed for the large amount of fae influence and the presence of other dangerous animals and creatures. Thus, even established roadways can be hazardous.

Still, people are flocking to the new isle of provinces, and Taralae expects that the isle will have firmly established governments by late summer.

Ruby Tart Reward

Jalpa is holding a festival for Queen Lorna tomorrow, and as part of the celebrations, the famous Jalpan bakery Surae was commissioned to bake six hundred cherry tarts, Queen Lorna’s favorite. All was going fine until Lady Katherine, head baker at Surae, noticed that the ruby on her ring had fallen free of its setting.

The stone is a family heirloom that goes back for three generations, and Lady Katherine searched the area thoroughly before deciding the inevitable – the stone had come out in the cherry filling.

Instead of destroying the tarts, Lady Katherine has offered a reward to anyone who finds the stone and returns it – a sweet reward, consisting of a year’s supply of free bakery goods from her shoppe.

"Don’t worry about damaging it," she says, "for it’ll break your teeth before your teeth break it. My fondest wish is that this will encourage the populace to eat their tarts slowly and deliberately, the way they should be eaten. With my bakery goods, I always say, ‘suck, don’t chew!’"

The stone must simply be returned to Lady Katherine to claim the reward.
