Fourth Passage of the Frost Moon

Hunting Party Lost

One of the most flourishing professional hunting groups in the city, a party called Lyon, is missing. Actually a small hunting guild, Lyon provides much of the game for over eighteen restaurants throughout the city. With fourteen members, Lyon is one of the largest and most successful organized hunting groups in the Old World.

Although they usually hunt alone or in small groups, all fourteen of them decided to take a day last passage and look for the Kirjaan – the same beast which was subsequently discovered to be a chimera and killed by another group of hunters. For once Lyon was hunting as a group.

The left in early morn, departing a base camp just outside the city. The camp was left in the care of Muruta, a servant of one of the hunters.

"I prepared the evening meal and then waited," said Muruta. "But they never came back."

Numerous huntsfolk have searched the forests for signs of the group, but nothing has been found.

"I tracked them up into a rocky area about a league south of Aranor," said Malachai, who has been hunting for over forty years. "Then I lost their track. I simply don’t have any answers."

At this point there is only speculation that the group ran across some sort of powerful fae, or, as is more popularly believed, succeeded in finding the Kirjaan, despite the fact that the gypsy attack is now thought to have been by a chimera.

Whatever the case, it is seldom that such a large group disappears. If more is discovered, we’ll let you know.

Chimes in the Park

Walkers along the edge of the Silver Park in Aranor have noted a strange thing of late – odd, clear, bell-like ringings emanating from the woods.

"It’s always right around the south entrance to the park," said Jen, a guardswoman who patrols along the route. "People gather at dusk, and the sounds go well into the night. The chimes stop whenever anyone approaches their source, and we’re all pretty mystified."

Crowds of twenty to thirty people are gathering each night to hear the sounds, which are quite clear. And every night there are people who investigate, taking lanterns back into the woods.

"It’s definitely not a person," said Jen. "We’re not sure if this is some sort of faerie, an insect, a strange animal, or what. It’s like twenty or thirty little bells are being rung at intervals. Very haunting, actually."

For now, we’ll simply have to wonder.

Moraithe Reports Tirané Raids

Moraithe has suffered from two raids by ‘huge, brutish, red-haired men in fearsome boats’. Doubtless Tirané. The first raid, two moons past, was upon a small salt village south of Ralakra, and resulted in the capture of eleven people, as well as three deaths and looting of the entire village. The second raid was on the town of Rapalesk, a small but famous port, and the Tirané were turned back, but not without the loss of six townsfolk and three watercraft.

Tirané raids have grown less common in the last hundred years, due to retaliatory strikes by Moraithian, Lantrielle, and Masallan authorities. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find a culprit, since there is no central government on the isle of Tirané, and the raids could have been conducted by any of numerous Tirané clans.

Although we don’t have an authorized report, it is rumored that Moraithe does not intend to launch an official retaliation, but hopes instead that the actions of Rapalesk’s townsfolk will discourage further attacks. If more raids are staged, however, we will surely see some action from the Moraithian authorities.
