Fourth Passage of the Autumn Moon

Fugitive in Aranor

The infamous thief Jakaris, also known as "Dragoneye", was recently apprehended in Faol. He was due for hanging when he escaped Faol’s dungeons and made his way to Neraha. He was missing for over a moon, during which time he was probably making an overland crossing to Aranor. Last passage he was implicated in the theft of a famous painting, "The Waterspout", from the Library of Aranor.

Dragoneye got his name from one of his first thefts. ‘Dragoneye’ was the name of a large emerald of unusual qualities – it was stolen in Masalla, and has never been recovered. He specializes in the theft of rare and unique items, most of which are valuable enough to warrant divinatory follow-up.

Jakaris is wanted in Moraithe, Jedda, Masalla, Faol, and the Old World. Bounties on him range from 20,000 to 300,000 silver, with the highest being offered in Jedda.

Jakaris is described as raven-haired and green eyed, with a lithe build and striking features. He has a tattoo, a Jeddan punishment that marks a person as a thief. It rests just above his left cheekbone, and consists of the Jeddan symbol for ‘greed’.

The guard of Aranor will offer 50,000 silver for his delivery to any guardhouse, and 1,000 silver for information which leads to his apprehension.

Barony Awarded to Lady Arielle

Lady Arielle, famous throughout the lands as a designer of ‘edged fashions’, has accepted a barony two day’s ride out of Aranor.

"This is a new adventure in my life," she says. "I’m ready to live rustic for a while."

With thirty men to repair the village and manor home, as well as defend against the threats of the wilderness, Lady Arielle is leaving the comfort of her estate of Aranor.

"I’ve sold it to the mistress of Lord Cowan Faol," she said with a smile. "It is my hope that the Arielle estate will continue to be a seat from which much influence spreads over the world."

Lady Arielle’s fashions cut across cultural boundaries, and range from the risqué to the extravagant. One of her dresses can sell for over 20,000 silver, and whenever one is sold, copies soon spring up – a phenomenon she encourages.

She has assured me that she will continue to craft fashions from her wilderness barony, but that she hopes to ‘escape the public eye’ in her retreat.

As a baroness, the Lady Arielle will own her own lands and will have her own village. It might be a place to consider moving if you enjoy a mix of wilderness roughness and plush civilization.

Kraeven Threat Subsides – For Now

For those who haven’t heard of the Kraeven, imagine a diseased creature that ravages unprotected rural settlements. Imagine its almost unstoppable hunger and violent urges. Imagine the fear.

The horrors of the summer nights are coming to an end, however, as the Kraeven retire to their dens for winter hibernation. The last moon was frenzied as Kraeven seemed to be everywhere every night, attacking anything that moved – especially near human settlements, where livestock make for easy meals. But as the snows begin to fall near Rilhaven, the Kraeven are preparing for a long winter’s sleep, and huntsfolk are gathering in groups, intent on finding Kraeven dens and dragging the animals out to be burned. This winter will be the first during which such a tactic will be used, and it is hoped that by next summer, the Kraeven population will be significantly lessened.

The Kraeven problem has greatly affected Rilhaven, whose very existence is threatened by the almost complete cessation of trade brought on by fear of the Kraeven, as well as increased hauntings near the ruins of Antara – an area which serves as Rilhaven’s only port, and thus as their connection to the rest of the world. Fears of an attack by the Maelmuirians have only made things worse.

Rilhaven is still requesting aid, but thus far they have received only a scattering of people and donations of gold to help them in their plight.

"Rilhaven is land-locked and isn’t high on anyone’s list of political allies," says Lady Emily of Illumination. "They are going to have a hard time of it in the coming moons and years."
