Summer Iced Cream

Iced cream, a relatively new invention that has become a popular treat throughout the Known Lands, will now be available year-round in Aranor. In fact, there are two new shoppes offering the delicacy.

Collette’s Iced Cream in the Merchant District sells flavours based on combinations of berry essences, fruit juices, and flavoured oils.

"My vanilla is a favorite," she said, "and I use only the finest creams, giving my iced creams a smooth, sublime texture." She terms her iced creams ‘refined’, and keeps her flavouring subtle.

Karis, Jerick, and Matthew, three brothers from the Dock District, are Collette’s competition. Kajema, their ‘gourmet’ iced cream shoppe in the Dock District, delivers "incredible flavour combinations," says Karis. By stirring caramel, chocolate bits, whole berries, and candies into their iced creams, they come up with some pretty interesting mixtures.

Iced cream first appeared a few years ago, and was originally flavoured with nothing but honey or maple syrup. Of course, it was only available in the winter, but both of the new shoppes have circumvented this detail by utilizing magic able to cool the cream.

While most people are delighted, a few citizens are voicing concerns.

"This is just the sort of thing that happened in Antara," said one person to me. "Don’t people know that magic should only be used when absolutely necessary?"

Gwynned Grows

The province of Gwynned, re-opened for settlement this past spring, has experienced incredible growth.

"Our problems have been blessedly few," says Queen Genevieve of Shara Brae. "Plenty of people have been relocating here, hoping for new opportunity, the fae threat has caused almost no serious problems at all, and those who got in crops in the spring are delivering good harvests. The winter will still be challenging, but next year should see us able to support ourselves."

All the provinces on the island are still being supported by Queen Lillian, but she promises to relinquish all political control over the island next spring.

Another Riot Causes Hunt in Jeddan District

Two rival factions clashed violently in the Jeddan District last An Meja, resulting in the first death caused by these outbursts. Over sixty people were involved in a massive fight that included the throwing of rocks and bottles, damage to property all along the streetway, and a host of injuries. A guardsman who has served in the Jeddan District for over a year, one Arenen, was attempting to break up a fight when a large crowd began to rush backwards. He was trampled under innumerable feet. Although he was rushed by horseback to the nearest healers, the jolting ride was enough for him to succumb, and he was deemed unrecoverable.

The city has posted warnings throughout the Jeddan District that such riots will no longer be tolerated, and that guards will respond with steel and arrows if necessary. It is hoped that this will bring an end to these large-scale uprisings. But as the situation continues to deteriorate in Jedda Felsuin, it is anyone’s guess what will happen next.
