Third Passage of the Summer Moon

Kraken Driven Back

Though the true nature of the creature is hardly understood, and perhaps never will be, the strange beast of Teran’s Point has finally been driven off.

Using a single war-ship as a lure, the beast was enticed to attack, whereupon the ship delivered multiple strikes with ballistae equipped with heavy cording so that the Kraken could be secured to the ship. Although the ship endured heavy damage (it sank just north of Teran’s Point in shallow water), it secured the Kraken long enough for six other warships to attack. Despite the fact that the attempt was to kill the beast, it managed to escape, fleeing north along the coastline and leaving a dark trail of bloodied water in its wake.

Even though the warships will remain for two passages to ensure that the area is safe for trading vessels, most agree that the beast has fled for good.

A strange creature that defied our definitions, the Beast of Teran’s Point will doubtless the be subject of much study and debate.

Wavelong a Success

With the Immersion we reported on in the last Oracle drawing more than two thousand participants, a distinct lack of theft during the celebrations, and the successful attack on the Beast of Teran’s Point, the priests and priestesses of Tynan are more than satisfied with this year’s Wavelong festival.

"Tynan is pleased," said Asoran, Aranor’s High Priest of Tynan. "The ocean will be generous this year – expect good fishing and a drop in the prices of imports as fair weather speeds trade on the high seas."

A happy prediction indeed.

Kraeven Spread Fear

The kraeven, a seldom-seen breed of beast that has been afflicted with a strange disease, is intensifying its ravaging of New World villages. A recent treatise by Illumination explained the problem of the beast, which spreads a disease fatal to humans. Packs of the creatures are making travel in the forestlands exceedingly dangerous.

"All of the area villages have erected palisades," said Kern, Rilhaven’s emissary to Aranor. "But we depend on the forests for our very sustenance. Night is the time to fear, and that means the huntsfolk can’t venture far from the shelter of the city or villages. We’re in real trouble, actually."

One of the largest problems is that the disease infuses the victim with strong regenerative capabilities, so much so that it is claimed the creatures cannot die.

"Maybe we should be old-fashioned and put out a plea for a hero," said Kern.

They’ll certainly need something. Other than Rilhaven, only Casara has sufficient power to launch a large-scale hunt, and Casara is badly weakened from their recent attack by Sereg.

As for Maelmuire, some are suggesting that they are behind the recent attacks on civilization – attacks that seem to come from natural forces, but could instead be somehow orchestrated by Maelmuire.

"It’s obvious to me, if not to everyone else," said Kern. "They’re using some sort of magic to turn the world against us. Is it coincidence that Casara has suffered a near-mortal blow, and now we’re suffering under this new threat? It wouldn’t surprise me a bit if Maelmuire followed up with a full-scale assault within the next year."

Queen Lillian has been approached with pleas for aid, but has stated that she won’t consider giving military aid until her warships return from their mission at Teran’s Point.
