King Mark Tragedy

"This was to be expected," said Lady Margaretta, King Mark’s sister. "He’s a perennial bachelor."

The recently announced engagement of King Mark to Lady Emmaline Oralay of Masalla has fallen into ruin. Lady Oralay was discovered using an elixir, crafted by her own sorceries, to keep the king of Rel Morde enthralled. A pained King Mark ordered the sorceress arrested, but she mysteriously disappeared, and is yet to be found.

Such an attempt is not particularly surprising, since King Mark is handsome and of good temperament.  He also stands at the head of much of Carador’s gemstone market. To use such a ploy, however, was brazen indeed, and doubtlessly required the use of subtle magics.

Word has been sent to Masalla to watch for Lady Oralay's arrival back there, but it is yet unclear what the Masallan authorities will do concerning the matter.

Though the drama was short-lived, it is a remarkable story that will surely make a good tale for the bards.

Confusion Off Teran’s Point

Matters have certainly not become more clear at Teran’s Point, where sightings of a kraken-like creature have been combined with new sightings of what Aranorian authorities are calling ‘probable pirate-ships’.

Duke Amasay of Moraithe has sent two warships to aid in the effort of uncovering the danger, but reports suggest that this has simply added to the confusion since there are now problems determining who, exactly, is in charge.

Still, trade is flowing as warships escort trading vessels through the dangerous waters.

No other remarkable events have been recorded, but we will scribe any news here as it unfolds.

Wavelong Celebrations to be Larger than Usual

In light of the recent difficulties off Teran’s Point, the priests and priestesses of Tynan are adding to the annual Wavelong celebrations by encouraging the re-instatement of numerous old ‘rituals’, most of which were suppressed under the Goddard Reign.

Among them is the ‘Immersion’, an age-old ceremony in which an entire ocean-side village gathers along the shore, and upon the sounding of a conch, all wade or swim out into the waves. This, of course, has become infeasible as a wide-spread practice since most ports are now larger cities, but this year Tynan’s temple is suggesting that we give it a try. The Immersion will begin at noon, with everyone in the city invited to gather along the shore north of the docks. Depending on the number of people in attendance, the gathering could stretch quite far up the beach, since the priests and priestesses are encouraging people not to crowd too close together to prevent possible drownings.

If a significant amount of people participate, this will doubtless be the most impressive Immersion the world has ever seen.

The city guard will be doubling their patrols throughout the city in order to prevent thefts in unoccupied homes, and the priests and priestesses are reminding potential thieves that to steal during this time would be ‘a direct affront against Tynan himself’.

That in itself should be enough to deter most rogues.
