Third Passage of the Melting Moon

Former Jeddan Emperor Declared ‘Escaped’

Aranor has withdrawn its ships from the hunt for the former Emperor of Jedda. Although Jeddan authorities may still continue the pursuit, Aranorian forces have informed us that ‘the trail is cold’.

The Emperor, who some felt went mad toward the end of his reign, fled the island of Irutoka and was last seen on Teran’s Point, where his ships were seized. He escaped overland with numerous powerful escorts – all highly-trained Jeddan warriors and magicians.

The isle of Irutoka is currently being headed by a stand-in Emperor – in Jeddan tradition, he is seen as a mortal taking on the responsibilities which should truly be held by the ‘divine', true Emperor. While the search for a ‘true’ Emperor continues, the current ruler continues to mend rifts caused by his predecessor. He is quickly gaining popularity with the people, many of whom consider him to be the ‘best ruler that Jedda has ever had’.

It is unclear how long the current Emperor, who is never called by his name, will hold his position, but many feel confident that he will be there for years to come.

As for the former Emperor? It is likely that he is still alive, and many Jeddans consider him to be of divine status. While most sages feel it is unlikely that he will re-surface in Jedda, such an occurrence could cause wide-spread confusion among a populace torn between their own convictions and the power of tradition.

Fae Dragons Coming To Selarum

Tavus Manai began ‘collecting’ fae dragons when he was three.

"My mother came out to the garden one day and screamed. I was playing with a golden-coloured fae dragon pup."

That was only the beginning of the magic. Tavus soon found that the small dragons, most no larger than the average house-cat, were inexplicably drawn to him. By the time he was twelve he had fourteen of the creatures living in and around his home, and had written his first book – a collection of stories drawn from his memoirs. Soon neighbors from all over his home island of Adiera were flocking to his parent’s cabin, and it wasn’t long before he was actually visited by the Prince of Masalla himself. His popularity swiftly grew, and today he travels throughout the provinces displaying his ‘friends’ and educating people about the tiny dragons.

"Fae dragons are too often seen as small but dangerous animals," he says. "The truth is that they are highly intelligent, and many can actually speak Old Tongue."

While this last statement tends to generate much disbelief, he explains that Old Tongue is not a language in the way most of us think of languages. "It’s an intuitive method of communication common to all fae – much in the same way that all humans universally recognize a smile, most fae recognize certain sounds as corresponding to certain emotions or ideas."

His display is spectacular – he shows fae dragons from all the provinces in a dazzling array of colours and shapes. None are caged or tied, and he freely communicates with them and asks them show examples of their aerial agility.

He will arrive in Selarum next passage and will be displaying over forty fae dragons. The display will be held in the courtyard of Queen Ennea’s castle, and will be open to the public for a ten-silver fee per person.

Princess Meagan to Lead Procession

With Queen Lillian projected to return within the next two passages, Princess Meagan has decided to see off her first stint at rulership with a celebration. Next An Tir she will head a parade that moves throughout the city of Aranor, and will feature innumerable entertainers.

"I wanted to give everyone a chance to show off their talents," she said.

Participation in the parade is open to anyone who desires to make a display of their skills. Already jugglers, acrobats, falconers, dancers, and puppeteers are signed on, and entertainers of all types are welcome to participate, even if they simply want to ‘jump in’ on the day of the parade.

Merchants throughout the city will also be offering special prices on goods and a few will be giving away free pastries, cookies, or candies.

"In my short time of ruling over Aranor," said Meagan, "I’ve come to discover what an amazing city this is. This parade is a celebration of that."
