Fourth Passage of the Harvest Moon

Halos Illuminate Sky

Last An Maad saw one of the most impressive displays of halos since Aranor was founded. The streets crowded with observers as hundreds of small halos lit the sky. Three particularly bright ones cast enough light to create shadows.

Halos are strange, circular eruptions in the sky that pulse outward in concentric rings. No one understands their cause, but magicians have suggested that they might be swirls or eddies of intensely concentrated magic, high in the heavens, much like the small whirlpools that form in the Silver River.

Illumination Expands

Illumination, the organization formed under the auspices of Queen Lillian, has been enlightening the population for years now. Due to increased demand and popularity, Illumination is now expanding to each of the major ports of the Old World – Selarum and Jalpa will now have their own Illumination Cafés, where folks can gather for tea, good food, and education.

Each Café will include the entire collection of Illumination publications, as well as feature guest speakers and presenters from all walks of life. In Aranor, the lastest presentation is called ‘Debate’, where two presenters will argue on two sides of pertinent issues.

Both of the new cafes are scheduled to open by the end of next moon.

Assassination Attempt on King of Masalla

An archer put an arrow into the chest of the King of Masalla last passage, marking the first attempt at taking the King’s life. He was rushed to a healer, where he was quickly restored to health. The arrow ‘missed all his vitals’, according to the healer.

Numerous attempts have been made on the life of the Queen, who many claim has somehow enchanted the King. King Nadarn has been unusually passive in the last two years, leaving most of the ruling to Queen Anabelle. When the arrow struck him, witnesses say that the King was ‘oddly unresponsive’, and never panicked or seemed to be in pain as he was rushed to the nearby healer. These rumors add to the allegations that the Queen has somehow enchanted the King.

Magicians and healers alike, however, insist that the King is neither undead nor under the influence of an enchantment. This does little to convince those who insist that Queen Anabelle’s public affair with the Archmage Cowan Faol proves that ill use is being made of the King.

The archer escaped, and no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the strike.
