First Passage of the Harvest Moon

Jeddans Gone Mad

Jeddan warships sent by the Emperor to rescue a Kaelen princess succeeded in finding their first pirate city-  a town with a population of at least two hundred people sheltered in a secluded bay. They left it in ruins.

Pirate cities are thought to be the stuff of legend, but sages estimate that there are well over fifty of the outposts established on various islands throughout the Known Lands. Many are small establishments – little more than a few trading-houses – but others are said to be fortified cities.

The Jeddans claim that four of the ships at the docks belonged to pirates who have bounties on them, and penned in the entire bay as six warships moved into the docks.

According to reports, the pirates didn’t stand a chance. Though they attempted to man their ships and fire back, the Jeddan warships, infinitely superior in armament and speed, sunk most of the ships at their moorings. A party of Shai-kan warriors then entered the city, killing most of the men and searching the city for the princess. Prisoners were taken to the docks, questioned, and killed, regardless of answers that they gave.

The Jeddans sent back reports that they lost no fighters in the battle, and sustained only minor damage to two ships. Estimates suggest that just over eighty pirates were killed.

While some feel that killing pirates is a good thing, others point out that we have no proof that this was a pirate city – only that pirate ships were at dock. Since the Jeddans are attacking before they question anyone, it is only a matter of time until more innocent people are killed in the name of justice.

Thus far, no one has enforced restraint on the search party, and the Jeddans will likely continue their search at the expense of anyone who gets in their path.

Lost Ship Has Valuable Cargo

When Jonathon, an Aranorian adventurer, stumbled on the remains of a wreck along the south-eastern coast of the Old World, he thought it was just another derelict. But upon closer inspection, he found numerous trunks, many scattered over the beach and half-buried in the sands.

"Sometimes the waves will uncover items on the beach," he said. "I think that’s what happened here, and I simply happened to sail by at the right time."

The trunks contained numerous items of clothing – most faded and brittle. Jonathon didn’t think they would be of much value to anyone until he had a sage from the Library of Aranor take a look. It was then that he learned he had found a cache of fine clothing dated at four hundred years old – just at the time when the Old World was being settled.

"These are the finest clothes of the first settlers on the Old World," he said. "I’m told it’s a spectacular find."

Spectacular enough that clothiers throughout the city are bidding on the items, and plan to sell reproductions. Jonathon stands to make hundreds of thousands of silver on the auction.

"I guess I got lucky," he beams.

His luck has probably just begun.

Tirané Raiders Attack Lantrielle

Little is heard from Tirané these days, but two passages ago they made their presence felt in Lantrielle.

"They came in the night," said Everett, a ship captain from Lantrielle. "They were painted black, made to look like Shavay. But one who was killed proved that they were from Tirané."

The raiders made off with eight slaves and numerous goods from the small, wealthy village they attacked.

Since it is not known what Clan they represented or where, on Tirané, they are from, there is little hope of retrieving the slaves or goods, but Lantrielle is patrolling their waters with renewed vigor.

"They won’t get away with that again," said Everett.

Other sailors in the vicinity of Lantrielle and Moraithe have reported seeing primitive Shavay ships within the last few passages, and it is currently unknown whether these were actually painted Tirané or actual Shavay sailors. Their purpose is also unknown, but the Shavay people are usually not known for their sea-faring ways, so their presence gives us even more of a mystery.
