First Passage of the Melting Moon
Mystery Lights the Night Sky
On An Aran of the last passage of the Ice Moon, a large, bright streak became evident in the night sky. It has been growing brighter and moving across the heavens night by night, causing some people to become quite fearful.
"There is no cause for any alarm," said Kijito, a Jeddan astrologer I spoke to in a café in the River District. "The light is quite harmless, though unexplained. They are quite common in our history texts. We suspect such lights to be some sort of object streaking through the heavens. This does, however, foretell the coming of a great event."
When asked what this event might be, he said that because the object was first associated with the constellation of the Babe, that it would foretell the birthing of either a person or an idea that would bring great events to fruition. He was charting out the path of the object when we met, and said that the other constellations that it passed through before it faded would tell us more about the meaning of the event.
Most of us, however, should be content to know that we can simply appreciate the spectacular beauty of the mystery, and need not have any fear.

An Uproar over Shoes
History repeats itself, and the fashion trend that drew so much despair among men two years ago seems in danger of re-appearing. Thick-soled, high-heeled shoes are once again being worn by ladies as spring approaches, making many of them taller than the average man.
"I find it not only irritating, but rather intimidating," said a man I interviewed, on condition of anonymity. "It's the most awful idea anyone ever had."
I am not prone to agree, as it gives a long-legged look and seems to encourage other flashy fashions, such as bright lip-stain and Moraithian midriff-bearing attire. I say, let there be more!

Kraken Washes upon Moraithian Shore
In a historical event, a legendary Kraken washed up onto the beach north of Staladin two passages ago. The beast measured eighty-nine paces long, and was in a rather decomposed state. Nevertheless, sages and sight-seers flocked to the sight, braving the stench to study a creature that has long existed in story, but has never been found dead, and never seen much of alive.
Reports say that it appears similar to a gigantic squid, bluish-black in color and with a huge, brownish beak. Suckers as large as dinner plates adorn the tentacles, each one equipped with short, spiky teeth. Efforts were being made to cut it open and examine what it had eaten of late.
Magicians were sent to magically preserve the beast, but its extreme size made this a daunting task, and many were suggesting that its smell might begin to reach down to Staladin and make life unbearable there.
