Fourth Passage of the Rain Moon

Tempest Ravages Jalpa

The normally well-protected bay of Jalpa was hit by a powerful storm last An Maad, the likes of which have never been recorded in Jalpa’s peaceful history.

"Maya is bringing spring in with a fury," said an undisclosed priestess of the aforementioned deity.

Lightning ripped from the skies, striking the ground over and over while piercing winds ripped shingles from roofs and shattered windows with wind-blown debris.

"At least sixteen fires were started by the lightning," said Kiren, our contact with the Jalpa city guard. "Most were put out by the storm, but one house and two horse-barns were lost."

Miraculously, no one was killed, though injuries were all too common.

Jalpa is still attempting to recover from the blow, docking and repairing damaged ships, gathering livestock, and repairing homes and buildings.

"The biggest loss was the fountain in Pearldew Square," said Mia, one of the citizens helping to clean up the city. "It was a sculpture of six horses, done by the late sculptor Adreas Dushaan. A tree hit it, leaving only one horse standing."

Jalpa is offering free room and board to citizens of Aranor who wish to come and volunteer to help with the massive cleaning-up effort.

Elephant Loose in Selarum

In a terrific disaster, an elephant broke loose from its cage and fled into the streets of Selarum.

"The event occurred near one of the city gates," said Sarl of the city guard. "And the beast fled straight out through the city."

The creature has been wandering throughout the countryside, scaring peasants and tearing up fields.

"We’re totally unprepared to deal with this sort of beast," says Sarl. "The creature’s owner was, very unfortunately, killed in the moment of the elephant’s escape, and he was the only one who knew how to tame the creature."

Although it hasn’t harmed anyone else, it seems to have a voracious appetite, and is doing tremendous damage to crops and trees.

"Our choices appear to be either to trap the creature or kill it. We’re not sure we could kill it even if we wanted to, and to trap it, well . . . we really wouldn’t know where to begin."

As the city struggles with the problem of capturing the beast, great crowds are coming from as far distant as Aranor and Faol to see the unusual creature.

"We’re trying to discourage large crowds," says Sarl, "but the truth is that the creature seems to enjoy the attention."

New Breed of Grape Emerges from Jalpa

After 70 years of selective breeding, the Loritae family, vintners of local Jalpan wines, have introduced a new grape to the world.

The "Golden Grape" is a bright yellow color, and exudes an amber juice when crushed.

"It possesses a delicate, sweet flavour," says Aradin Loritae, the lord of the house. The juice has a crisp, clear, refreshing taste, and the Loritae family is wasting no time in unveiling a new wine that features the grape.

"Citrine is going to be marketed in all the known lands," Aradin says. "It is exceptionally bright, with overtones of pear and melon, and undertones of vanilla and oak which give it a rich depth."

The wine will be available in the Summer Moon, and will be sold for forty silver a bottle.
