Herein you’ll find a complete system of role-playing based on the world of Carador. Like any role-playing system, you’ll have to get familiar with the workings of the system. Here are a few notes that might help you get acquainted –
Caradorian Role-Playing is designed as an intelligent, dramatic role-playing system where you really get into the lives of your characters. It goes way beyond hack-and-slash. Numerous tools are provided for creating deep, realistic characters and NPC's.
The Game Master is called an ST (Storyteller).
The game is intended to be highly organic -- the 'rules' are guidelines only, mean to smooth out the 'nuts and bolts' of playing. The ST should always be the final authority, and should feel free to alter the guidelines in order to create a more exciting and dramatic experience for all involved
The dice you’ll need are a d6 and a d20 (you’ll use the d20 as a d10 and a d100.)
You’ll find all the information you need to create characters, wage combat, cast spells, and develop adventures inside!
Why Caradorian Role-Playing?
First, the system is very realistic and uncomplicated. It allows characters to grow and develop much as real people do, without the restrictions of character classes and enforced behavioral codes. Although it can be used much like a typical role-playing system, its greatest strengths lie in crafting adventures which utilize intrigue and well-crafted storylines. As an ST you'll find plenty of aids to accomplishing this in the Guidelines.
Second, the world of Carador is a living world – by checking on this site, which is updated every seven days, you can see what’s going on in the world politically and in everyday life. You’ll also find lots of new information presented which can easily be translated into adventures.
Third, by putting ultimate power in the hands of the ST instead of the ‘rulebook’, Caradorian Role-Playing dispenses with much of the argument and rule checking often found in other systems, and allows the participants to concentrate on having fun instead of following rules.
Fourth, Caradorian Role-Playing makes all efforts to dispense with arbitrary rules, such as race restrictions on magic or armor, which can often make role-playing feel more like game-playing than an immersion experience.
Fifth, by e-mailing the creators of Carador, you can have any fuzzy issues resolved (although this system has been play-tested extensively, there are always new issues popping up.)
Lastly, the system is currently absolutely free, as are all of the Caradorian Role-Playing resources.
Read on and enjoy! If you’re going to be an ST, go to Storytelling. If you’re going to be a character, go to Creating a Character (first find an ST and then have them help you out with this.) Write to us and tell us what you think of the system! As Carador grows, the system may be published in book form, but for now feel free to print out any charts or sections that you’ll need to reference as long as it’s for your own, private use.
