Speed Ratings and Travel

Speed Ratings give an idea of a creature's speed in relation to other creatures. The speed rating is a representation of the creature's top speed.  If creatures are traveling at near-top speed, they will lose endurance.  The ST should remove an endurance point if they feel that the character is overtaxing his or herself, and continue to remove them if the character refuses to rest.  Lost endurance points must be recovered by sleeping.
Here is a sampling of Speed Ratings. Each is an average.

Human 10
Horse 20
Dog 17
Horse and Wagon 18

If a chase is going on, you can imagine the Speed Rating as the number of feet traveled by each party each quint.

Traveling overland -- A walking person can expect to travel 5 or 6 leagues a day, with half that if the terrain is hilly.

On horseback, you can double your distance without wearing down your horse.

With a horse and wagon or carriage, expect to make 8 leagues a day.

Traveling by ship -- In a trading ship, it takes about 15 days to get from Aranor to Staladin. It takes about 16 days to get from Masalla to Jedda. It takes about 43 days to get from Aranor to Jedda, and about 6 days to get from Selarum to Faol.

A Caravel can travel, on average, about 48 leagues per day.
A Trading ship can travel about 40 leagues per day.
A Merchant ship can travel about 32 leagues per day.
A Galleon can travel about 24 leagues per day.
