Magical Items
Most magical items are simply rings, swords, wands, etc. that have been enchanted with the Manalife spell and any of the modern spells. Such items usually work from 1-6 times per day, and the potency and duration of their magics are dependent on the rank of their creator.
In older times, however, many other types of magical items were created, and some were once quite common. Because the items were usually preserved against deterioration, many of them can still be found today in shoppes, forgotten treasure hoards, museums, or other such places. They are usually not sold if the possessor realizes that they are magical. If they are sold, it is usually for very high prices.
If a character is able to feel the presence of magic, such items are quite recognizable (though their function may be a mystery). The ST can create items, but here is a list of some of the more common items found-
Purse of Shifting - This consists of a fine velvet pouch and a stone. If these items are separated for more than two days, both will lose their magic permanently, so it is very important to keep them together. The stone can be removed from the pouch and willed into any object of 2lbs. or less. It will not create magical items, but anything else can be made. If something such as food is created and then eaten, the stone will lose an equivalent amount of its substance, and thereafter only be able to turn into things of lesser weight. But if the stone is not depleted in this way, it can be used indefinitely and as often as the possessor wishes.
Luck Stones - These stones were once very common. They usually increased all rolls in a character's favor by 2%. The effects are not cumulative.
Amulet of Enhancement - These finely made amulets were once worn by most mages and majae. Each time a spell is cast by a magician wearing such an item, there is a 30% chance that the spell will be x2 enhanced (duration and effects).
Magic Cloth - This now-rare cloth negated the effects of a vorpal weapons (see Vorpal Fighting under Combat).
Vorpal Swords - These blades, beautiful and light, can cut through anything but Rel Morde Steel as if it were almost not even there. Stone, wood, or metal, all these vorpal blades pass through, ghostlike, leaving the substance finely cloven. Once common, they are almost impossible to find today.
Natasha's Brown Bag Lunch - This leather pouch can produce the equivalent of three nourishing meals per day. What comes out is not under the control of the possessor, but the food is always of a nature which does not require utensils or settings (sandwiches, drumsticks, shish-kabobs, etc.)
Saddle of Security - These finely made saddles magically hold the rider in place with a sort of magical magnetism. Riding ability is increased by 30%.
Boots of Agility - Made for war, these boots magically propel the feet in a subtle fashion, the effect of which is to increase Agility by 2 (check for bonuses)
Eardrops of Listening - These small vials of liquid have a glass stick with which a small droplet of the liquid is placed in the ear. Users can understand (but not speak) any language, including the languages of animals, and can hear as well as a dog.
Tynan's Conch - These enchanted shells can be blown into in order to raise or lower the wind. Very rare in these times, they could be blown once to raise or lower the wind a bit, twice to shift it greatly, and three times to cause a tempest or perfect still. They cannot control the wind's direction.
Bag of Dirt and Rock - These bags are for use at sea. Appearing as a plain leather bag filled with dirt and stones, they are thrown out into the water, where they swiftly transform into a small, treeless, shelterless island. On the island's edge will be found a piece of leather sticking up from the sand. When the person is done with the isle, they can lean over the edge of their ship and pull on this strap, at which point the island will be returned to the familiar little bag. Note that these bags were often used when a ship was sinking, so many of them are found in island form, some now overgrown (and perhaps with a skeleton or two lying among the plants). The leather strap, however, will always be present.
Ring of Comfort - These rings were designed to keep the wearer comfortable in any but the most extreme of weathers. Wearers could swim in icy water, lie naked in the snow, or feel cool in desert heat. These items do not protect against fire or magical/dragon-frost damage.
