Corruption
It is a historical fact that those in power tend to use that power for their own gain. Whether it is something in the nature of humans or something particular in the personalities of those who usually rise to power is difficult to say, but such corruption can affect characters greatly. With the current politics, characters can most expect to find laws twisted and rules selectively applied in the provinces of Lantrielle, Jedda, Masalla, and the baronies of Casara and Faol. Cuan, Auralay, and Rilhaven upon the New World, as well as all the lands of the Old World, can be considered fairly just, though no place is free of corruption. If faced with guards or lesser nobles who treat you unjustly, it is wise to make an attempt to bring such actions to the attention of the highest person you can. That is, of course, if something besides revenge is to be gained. If all you want to do is prove a point, it's often better to forget the injustice and save yourself the possibility of future trouble.
