Studying Grimoire Spells

If a grimoire is found, the magician may want to study a spell in order to learn it and add it to their repertoire.

If a magician is studying a spell of their own Order, Discipline, and Degree (if Substance), it takes 40 hours of study to gain the spell. (Figure 8 hours of study a day for the most devoted learner, and 4 hours as the average).

If the spell is outside of the magician's Order, it cannot be learned.

If it is within the magician's Order but of another Discipline, the spell may be learned with an extra 80 hours of study.

If the magician is a Substance magician and the spell is one Degree removed from their current Degree, add 80 hours. If it is two Degrees, add another 160 hours. Remember that all of these additional hours are cumulative (so that if a Substance magician is learning a spell of their own Discipline but two Degrees removed, it would take them 280 hours (base of 40 + 80 + 160).

If the magician has a photographic memory, their final study time is halved.
