To the Arts Treatises

In most provinces it is believed that your spirit, when you sleep, is transported to the Dream Realm. There you go on grand adventures, traveling and exploring in that unusual locale. This view has been well-supported by magical research, and magicians of high potency are even able to enter the Dream Realm bodily. Thus we know that it does, indeed, exist.

This lullaby is of unknown origin, but remains one of the most popular children’s bedtime songs in many provinces. Meant for adventurous children, it encourages the child to get ready for the fabulous journeys soon to come, for once they close their eyes, even the youngest child will be on his or her own as they enter that strange and shifting realm.

The lyrics here are written along with Caradorian Musical Writing. On the bottom we’ve included your musical notation system as well. The song is sung in a slow, lilting voice, meant to soothe the little one to sleep.

Go and fetch your sword my child,

(For) dragons haunt the other side,

gryphons scream and wolves so wild,

go and fetch your sword my child.

Time to don your armor child,
of resin, steel, with joints so true,
for serpent’s venom isn’t mild,
time to don your armor child.

Time to call your horse my child,
the journey’s long with rolling hills,
so set your stirrups, take your reins,
time to call your horse my child.

Now off to bed your mother says,
pull up your sheets and snuggle down,
close your eyes, embrace the night,
return with trophies of your flight.
